Esmeralda Akpoke- Camden Square Ward Candidate

Esmeralda E Akpoke- Camden Square Ward. Email- [email protected]

Having a positive attitude does not mean ignoring life’s challenges; it means staying optimistic and seeking ways to improve life’s difficulties. I am naturally optimistic, enjoy engaging with people, and have often been described as a good listener. I believe these qualities are essential to being approachable and to representing residents effectively.

I moved back to London from North West England many years ago and settled in Camden Town, where I still live. Camden Square’s diversity was new to me at first, but I embraced it and have always felt part of the community. I value that diversity and treat every resident with equal respect, regardless of their background or outlook on life.

As someone who smiles naturally, I have found that a warm smile can break down barriers and encourage positive conversations, especially with people experiencing homelessness or rough sleeping. In Camden Square, many rough sleepers now greet me as “my friend” when they see me. I value those connections because they help build trust, neighbourhood spirit, and the foundations of the community we all want to live in.

I am standing as a councillor for Camden Square Ward to help reduce homelessness and rough sleeping, tackle antisocial behaviour, and improve local housing. I will campaign for more affordable homes, work with property owners to secure good-quality housing, support outreach and peer-monitoring programmes, and promote community-based services for people experiencing homelessness. I will also use social media campaigns to raise awareness and encourage action.

If elected, I will also work to:

Preserve Camden Square’s multicultural identity.

Develop strategies for tenant participation, community cohesion, and the protection of Camden Square’s green spaces.

Advocate for reliable recycling and waste collection services, particularly where staff shortages have affected delivery.

·       Encourage women’s education and community engagement.

·       Support disabled people and people with special needs who wish to stand in elections.

Engage actively with local communities.
